Cyclones Defeated by Road Warriors, 3-0

CINCINNATI, Ohio – A 22-save performance from goaltender Jason Missiaen and a two-point night from Josh Nicholls helped lift the Greenville Road Warriors (16-9-0-1) to a 3-0 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones (9-9-0-4) in front of 3,002 at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday night.

The Road Warriors drew first blood at 6:29 of period one when Michael St. Croix buried a rebound past Rob Madore (L, 21 saves, 6-5-0-3) to give his team a 1-0 edge. And despite earning a pair of power plays in the opening frame, the Cyclones trailed by one at the first intermission.

After nearly a full middle period of scoreless hockey, the Road Warriors extended their cushion as Spencer Humphries beat Madore with a low wrist shot from the right circle at 14:27 to make it 2-0. At the other end of the ice, Jason Missiaen (W, 22 saves, 5-4-0-1) remained unscathed by turning aside seven second period shots to keep his team ahead by a pair after 40 minutes.

Cincinnati continued to keep the pressure on in the final period, peppering 10 more shots on Greenville's net; however, Missiaen kept his shutout bid alive. Then, in the final minute, Tyler Brown deposited an empty-net goal to seal what turned out to be a 3-0 victory for the Road Warriors. The blanking was the first for Missiaen this season, and seventh as a pro.
