Walleye Swim Past Cyclones, 4-0

TOLEDO, Ohio – A three point night for Martin Frk led the Toledo Walleye (28-6-3-2) past the Cincinnati Cyclones (19-17-0-4) by a 4-0 final score in front of 6,094 at Huntington Center on Friday night. It was just the third time this season that the Cyclones were held off the scoreboard.

The Walleye drew first blood at 11:04 when, during a delayed penalty, Tyler Barnes found Tyler Elbrecht in the right circle who promptly buried his first goal of the season past Sam Brittain (L, 26 saves, 11-9-0-1) to make it 1-0. The home team would carry the one-goal edge into the first intermission.

Despite the Cyclones outshooting the Walleye 12-11 in the middle stanza, Toledo was able to extend its lead at the 3:15 mark during their first power play of the night. Martin Frk fed Shane Berschbach at the side of the net for a tap in lamplighter, his ninth of the season. Meanwhile, at the other end of the ice, Neil Conway (W, 22 saves, 5-1-2-1) kept his shutout streak alive to keep his team ahead by two after 40 minutes.

Just 4:12 into the final period, the Walleye added some more breathing room when Berschbach slid a puck to Frk in the low slot and he sticked in his 16th of the season to make it 3-0. Later in the frame, at 10:49, Frk caught a drop pass from Anthony Luciani outside the right circle and cannoned in his second of the night to cap off the scoring at 4-0. The Cyclones' efforts to find the net continued to be stifled by Conway, who ultimately earned his first shutout of the season.
