CYCLONES FALL IN OVERTIME IN ROAD TRIP FINALE

Downing’s Pair not Enough for Cincinnati

Norfolk, VA- The Cincinnati Cyclones (15-13-3-2) dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the Norfolk Admirals on Saturday night. Forward Jack Downing scored both goals for the Cyclones, who wrap up their season-long, five-game road trip.

Similar to Friday night, Cincinnati wasted little time getting on the board in the first, as just 9:55 in while on the power play, forward Andrew Yogan sent a rink-wide feed to Downing in the left circle, and he hammered home a one-timer, putting the Cyclones up, 1-0.

That 1-0 lead held up throughout the remainder of the first, and the second, the physicality picked up from both sides early on in the frame, however a goal from forward Dean Ouellet midway through the frame tied the game, 1-1, after two periods.

Both teams turned up the pressure in the third period, and 5:05 into the frame, the Cyclones took the lead when forward Zach Budish sent a pass from below the goal line to Downing out front, and he snapped it into the net, giving the Cyclones a 2-1 edge.

The Cyclones pressured Norfolk throughout the remainder of the period, receiving a number of chances in the offensive zone, however with 59 seconds left in the third, Ouellet netted the game-tying goal for the Admirals, knotting things up, 2-2, and forcing the game into overtime.

In the extra session, Cincinnati came out flying, getting a breakaway chance from Yogan, just six seconds into the frame. The Cyclones received a few more opportunities, however a scramble in front of the Cyclones’ net resulted in Admirals forward Gabriel Verpaeist netting the winner, 3:29 into overtime, sending Norfolk to a 3-2 overtime victory.

The Cyclones outshot Norfolk, 38-37 on the night, while the power play converted on 1-of-6 chances. Cincinnati returns home for a date with the Ft. Wayne Komets on Wednesday night. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:30pm ET.
