Overview: The Cyclones return home on Wednesday night to battle the Kalamazoo Wings. Cincinnati is coming off of a 2-1 loss to the Indy Fuel on Saturday night. Wednesday is also the start of a three-game homestand, and a 7-of-10 game stretch at home.
Saturday Night Recap: The Cincinnati Cyclones (21-19-3-1) fell to the Indy Fuel, 2-1, on Saturday night. Forward Andrew Yogan scored the lone goal for the Cyclones. Cincinnati outshot the Fuel, 30-28, with goaltender Andy Iles stopping 26 in the loss.
Friday Night Recap: The Cincinnati Cyclones (21-18-3-2) defeated the Indy Fuel, 4-3, on Friday night. Forward Andrew Yogan tallied a pair of goals, while forwards Jack Downing and Peter Quenneville each added lone markers. Cincinnati was outshot, 35-17 on the night, with goaltender Andy Iles stopping 32 to collect the win.
Wednesday Night Recap: The Cincinnati Cyclones (20-18-3-2) fell to the Wheeling Nailers, 3-1, on Wednesday night. Forward Peter Quenneville scored the lone goal of the night for the Cyclones. The Cyclones were outshot, 28-25 on the night, with Cyclones netminder Andy Iles stopping 25 in the loss.
Previewing Kalamazoo: The Wings enter Wednesday’s games winners of two straight, and four of their last five games overall. They are outscoring their opposition, 20-15, in those four wins, and have allowed more than two goals twice in that five game stretch. The are led by forwards Dane Fox (17g, 21a), and Ludwig Blomstrand (14g, 22a) who have each accounted for 36 points. Rounding out the top three is Alex Mallet, who has totalled 33 points (14g, 19a) in 44 games played. In goal, Joel Martin has shouldered the bulk of the load this season, posting a 19-15-4-1 record, with a 2.94 goals-against average, and a .919 save percentage.
Inside the Series: Wednesday marks the fourth and final meeting of the season between the Cyclones and Wings, with Cincinnati posting a 1-1-1-0 record in the first three contests, with the Cyclones’ lone win coming at home in the second game of the season.
Next Game Preview: The Cyclones return to divisional play on Friday night, when they welcome in the Ft. Wayne Komets to U.S. Bank Arena. The Cyclones dropped a 4-1 decision to the Komets back on January 29 in Ft. Wayne, however, the Cyclones won their last home meeting between the two sides back on January 23 (W, 6-4).
Yogan Heads Back Up: After recording five points in three games last week (3g, 2a), forward Andrew Yogan has been recalled by the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League (AHL). This marks Yogan’s second call-up to the Crunch in the last 10 days, scoring a goal in his lone game with Syracuse on January 30. Yogan has appeared in 28 games with the Cyclones, and leads the team in most offensive statistical categories, including assists (23), points (36), and on-ice rating (+15).
And Down the Stretch They Come!: Friday’s 4-3 win over the Indy Fuel marked the 16th time this season that Cincinnati has won a game when leading after two periods. The Cyclones are 16-1-0-0 when leading heading into the third period, and are outscoring their opposition, 50-41, in the third period this season.
Taking the Lead: With a goal in Friday night’s 4-3 win over the Indy Fuel, forward Jack Downing is now tied for the League-lead with 22 goals. Downing has been amongst the top scorers on the Cyclones all season long, tallying points in five of his last seven games (4g, 1a), and his goal Friday night also marked his 150th point of his pro hockey career.
Finding his Stride: Rookie forward Peter Quenneville scored the game winner in Friday night’s 4-3 win over the Indy Fuel, marking his second straight game with a goal. The Columbus Blue Jackets prospect has points in three of his last four games, accounting for a pair of goals and an assist in that span.
Familiar Foes: The Cyclones are preparing for a lot of games in division over the last half of the season. With 27 games remaining on the regular season schedule, Cincinnati will be playing 20 of those against Midwest Division foes (Evansville, Ft. Wayne, Indy, Quad City). The Cyclones have compiled an 10-9-1-1 record against divisional opponents this season.
Downing, Whitney named to Fantasy Team: The ECHL League Office has announced the winner from each team on the 2015-16 ECHL Fantasy Team, presented by The MeiGray Group, as well as the goaltenders who will be participating for each of the League’s 28 teams in the Golden Goalie Program. Amongst the participants are Cyclones forward Jack Downing, and goaltender Brandon Whitney. Fans had the opportunity to vote for one player on each team, and that player will wear a special Fantasy Team jersey at an upcoming home game. A goaltender from each team was also selected, and he too will wear a specially-designed jersey at an upcoming home game.
