CYCLONES’ COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN SERIES FINALE

Cincinnati Downed by Idaho in Second Game of Road Trip

Boise, ID- The Cincinnati Cyclones (32-26-4-0) fell to the Idaho Steelheads, 5-3, on Saturday night. Forwards Shawn O’Donnell, Nick Huard, and Dominic Zombo tallied the goals for the Cyclones.

Cincinnati wasted little time finding the back of the net, as just 49 seconds in O’Donnell came down the right side on a 2-on-1 rush and wristed a shot past Idaho goaltender Brandon Komm to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.

The Steelheads responded fast and furious, receiving goals from forwards Jefferson Dahl and Joe Bassaraba, along with defenseman Travis Walsh in a span of 2:33 to give Idaho a 3-1 lead after the first period.

Idaho continued their offensive prowess in the second, receiving two more from defensemen Brandon Anselmini and Aaron Harsted to push their lead to 5-1, 11:49 into the frame.

Cincinnati was not deterred and responded on the power play with under a minute to play when a shot from defenseman Martin Lefebvre hit O’Donnell who sent a pass across the crease to Huard, and he jammed it in to pull the Cyclones to within three, 5-2, after two periods.

The Cyclones started to turn the tide offensively in the final frame, receiving a number of quality scoring chances and outshooting the Steelheads, 17-10 in the period.

Cincinnati cut their deficit to a pair with a little over three minutes to go when Zombo found a loose puck on the back door and slammed it in past Komm to pull the Cyclones closer at 5-3.

The Cyclones continued to get some chances in the final three minutes, however they were unable to complete the comeback as Idaho holds on for a 5-3 win.

Idaho outshot the Cyclones, 37-35 on the night, with goaltender Joel Rumpel stopping 32 in the loss. Cincinnati next heads to Alaska on Wednesday night, in the first of a three-game series. Face-off is slated for 11:15pm ET.
