CYCLONES SURVIVE LATE PUSH TO TAKE DOWN ALASKA

Victory Serves as Career Win 100 for Head Coach Matt Macdonald

Anchorage, AK- The Cincinnati Cyclones (33-26-4-0) earned a 2-1 win over the Alaska Aces on Wednesday night. Forward Seth Ambroz and defenseman Eric Knodel tallied the goals for the Cyclones, who secure the 100th ECHL coaching victory for Head Coach Matt Macdonald.

Ambroz had an immediate impact in this one, as he dropped the gloves with Alaska forward Garet Hunt just 14 seconds into the opening frame. Roughly nine and a half minutes later, Ambroz lit the lamp when a pass from behind the net from defenseman Martin Lefebvre found him in the high slot and he blasted it in to put Cincinnati ahead, 1-0.

The Cyclones took their 1-0 lead into the locker room after the first, and in the second they added to their lead at the 11:51 mark when forward Shane Walsh sent Knodel a pass at the right circle, and he hammered a slapshot past Aces netminder Kevin Carr to put Cincinnati ahead, 2-0, after 40 minutes.

Alaska mounted a third period comeback and pulled to within a goal, 2-1 with 1:02 remaining in the third, when forward Charlie Sampair found the back of the net following a scramble out front. Alaska mounted a ferocious push in the waning seconds, however Cyclones goaltender Michael Houser stood tall to preserve Cincinnati’s 2-1 lead and ultimate win.

The Cyclones outshot the Aces, 29-28, with Houser stopping 27 in the win. The Cyclones and Aces continue their three-game series on Friday night. Face-off is scheduled for 11:15pm ET.
