JOHANSSON STELLAR IN FIRST CYCLONES WIN

Cincinnati Picks up Second Straight Win on Home Ice

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones earned a 3-1 win over the Wheeling Nailers on Friday afternoon. Forwards Shawn O’Donnell, Rob De Fulviis, and Justin Danforth lit the lamp for the Cyclones, while goaltender Jonas Johansson stopped 32-of-33 shots in his Cyclones debut.

After a scoreless opening period, Wheeling drew first blood 9:21 into the second when forward Derek Army lit the lamp for the sixth time this season.

It didn’t take the ‘Clones long to answer, as just 2:01 later, defenseman Chris Leone took a shot that was kicked out by Nailers goaltender Sean Maguire right to O’Donnell, and he crashed the net and slammed in the rebound to tie the game, 1-1.

Cincinnati took the lead moments later, as a shot from De Fulviis from the right circle trickled between the legs of Maguire to give the Cyclones a 2-1 edge after two periods.

The Cyclones put the final nail in the coffin late in the third while on the power play, when O’Donnell came down the left side and sent a pass in front to Danforth who tipped it in to give the Cyclones the 3-1 lead and eventual win.

Cincinnati was outshot, 33-26 on the night, while the power play converted on 25% of it’s chances. Cincinnati heads to Ft. Wayne to take on the Komets on Saturday night. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30pm ET.
