Cincinnati Earns Third Straight on Home Ice

Cincinnati, OH-The Cincinnati Cyclones (15-9-1-0) battled to a 4-2 win over the Quad City Mallards on Saturday night. Forward Justin Danforth had a pair of goals, while forward Justin Vaive and defenseman Eric Knodel each added lone tallies for the Cyclones, who have now won three in a row.

The ‘Clones took their lead into the locker room after the first, and in the second Danforth lit the lamp again when he slammed in a pass on the backdoor from Brandon McNally to give Cincinnati a 2-0 lead.

After Quad City’s Sam Warning pulled the Mallards to within a goal at 2-1, Cincinnati regained their two-goal edge while shorthanded. Forward Rob De Fulviis came down the ice on a 2-on-1 and took a shot that was partially blocked by a Mallards defender, but the puck ricocheted to Knodel who hammered in a shot to put the Cyclones ahead, 3-1, after two periods.

The Mallards climbed back to within a goal in the third when forward Matt Pohlkamp scored, however midway through the frame. Schultz found Vaive alone in the slot, and he snapped a shot in and under the crossbar to seal Cincinnati’s 4-2 win.

Cincinnati outshot Quad City, 29-26, with goaltender Jonas Johansson turning aside 24 in the win. The Cyclones head back on the road next Friday night when they head to Moline to take on the Mallards. Face-off is slated for 8:05pm ET.
