CYCLONES VICTORIOUS OVER RIVAL KOMETS

Vaive Nets Pair in Huge Win

Cincinnati, OH-The Cincinnati Cyclones (17-10-1-0) defeated the Ft. Wayne Komets, 5-3, on Wednesday night, in front of close to 7,500 fans at U.S. Bank Arena. Forward Justin Vaive led the way with a pair of goals, while defenseman Eric Knodel along with forwards Dominic Zombo and Jesse Schultz added lone tallies for the Cyclones.

Cincinnati drew first blood just 5:19 into the opening period when Zombo won a puck battle below the goal line and threw a shot on net that was initially kicked out by Ft. Wayne goaltender Michael Houser, but Zombo got his own rebound and flicked a shot off the cross bar and in to put the Clones ahead, 1-0.

The Komets tied the game after the midway mark of the period, when forward Logan Nelson was sprung free out of the penalty box and scored to pull Ft. Wayne even, 1-1, after 20 minutes.

In the second, the Komets took a 2-1 lead 5:33 in when forward Artur Tyanuilin scored, however moments later while on the power play, Schultz sent a pass to Knodel, and he wristed in a shot past Houser to tie the game back up, 2-2.

The Cyclones regained the lead on another power play with less than five minutes to go in the frame when Schultz hammered home a one-timer off a pass from Knodel to put Cincinnati ahead, 3-2.

The momentum was short lived however, as with eight seconds left in the period, forward Marc-Olivier Roy netted a power play marker of his own to tie the game, 3-3, after two periods.

The third saw Cincinnati’s power play strike again when forward Shawn O’Donnell spun a pass to Vaive out front, and he slid a shot five-hole to put Cincinnati ahead, 4-3, 14:21 into the final frame.

The Cyclones added the dagger with 30 seconds to play when Vaive added the empty netter to seal Cincinnati’s 5-3 win. The Cyclones outshot the Komets, 33-22, with goaltender Anthony Peters stopping 19 in the win. Cincinnati hits the road for a matchup with the Quad City Mallards. Face-off is schedule for 8:05pm ET.
