CYCLONES COME UP JUST SHORT IN TOLEDO

Despite Action-Filled 60 Minutes, Cincinnati Loses in Nail-Biting Game

Toledo, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (21-13-1-0) fell just short Sunday night against the Toledo Walleye, 2-1, despite an action-filled game from the start. Forward Shawn O’Donnell scored Cincinnati’s lone-goal.

The start of the opening period brought a sense of high energy from both teams that lasted through all 20 minutes. Shortly after the initial puck drop, Toledo’s Kyle Bonis brought the Walleye to a 1-0 lead after taking a feed from Dylan Sadowy and squeaking the puck past Cyclones netminder Jonas Johansson, 2:05 into the frame.

Roughly five minutes later, defenseman Arvin Atwal sent a feed to O’Donnell who took a shot from just past the blue line that blew by Walleye goaltender Pat Nagle, tying the game, 1-1, through 20 minutes.

The second period saw the intensity and physicality ramp up, as the teams combined for 39 minutes of penalties in the frame. The period was highlighted by a scuffle between Cyclones forward Brandon McNally, and Toledo’s Mike Borkowski and Connor Crisp. Neither team was able to light the lamp in the final frame, and the sides took their 1-1 tie into the locker room after 40 minutes.

The final 20 minutes was a drastic contrast to the period prior, seeing only one penalty and goal from Toledo’s Davis Vandane 4:56 into the period which brought them to a 2-1 Walleye victory.

Toledo outshot the Cyclones, 37-25, with Johansson stopping 35 in the loss. The Cyclones have a few day off for the All-Star break before returning home Friday night to take on the Fort Wayne Komets. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
