WESELOWSKI INKS WITH CYCLONES

Defenseman Heads East for First Time in Career

CINCINNATI, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones have signed defenseman Riley Weselowski for the 2015-2016 season. The 30-year-old has spent the past six seasons with the Rapid City Rush.

“Riley is an older player who plays with a lot of grit and pride in the defensive zone, and we are expecting him to come in and lead our team both on and off the ice,” remarked Cyclones Head Coach Matt MacDonald. “He has shown in his pro career so far that he can be a steady, reliable defenseman who can excel in pressure situations. This is a great signing to help our younger guys develop and to give us more stability on the back end."

A native of Pilot Mound, MAN, Weselowski appeared in 44 games for the Rush last season, tallying three goals and seven assists. Prior to the Rush’s move to the ECHL last summer, Rapid City competed in the Central Hockey League (CHL), where Weselowski enjoyed five productive seasons on the Rush blueline, accounting for 124 points (22g, 102a) in 274 games.

He helped the Rush to a CHL championship in 2010, and holds team records for games played (318), postseason games played (59), goals by a defenseman (25), assists by a defenseman (109), and points by a defenseman (134). His +75 on-ice rating is also tied for the all-time team high.

Weselowski also spent parts of two seasons (2008-2010) with the Idaho Steelheads, where he accounted for three goals and 11 assists in 60 games.

A 2008 graduate of Bemidji State University, Weselowski skated four seasons with the Beavers where he potted eight goals and dished out 31 assists in 124 career games.
