Cincinnati Completes the Three-Game Sweep of The Aces on the Road

Anchorage, AK- The Cincinnati Cyclones (35-26-4-0) collected a 4-3 shootout decision over the Alaska Aces o Saturday night. Forwards Shawn O’Donnell and Dominic Zombo along with defenseman Eric Knodel scored the goals in regulation, while forward Nick Huard tallied the shootout winner for the Cyclones

After the Aces took a 1-0 lead after the first on a goal from forward Brad Navin, Alaska found some luck on the power play as defenseman Nolan Descateaux found the back of the net to put the Aces ahead, 2-0, midway through the second.

Cincinnati was not to be deterred and cut their deficit in half with less than five minutes remaining in the frame, when defenseman Jaynen Rissling sent a pass from below the goal line to O’Donnell who slammed the puck in from one knee to pull the Cyclones to within a goal, 2-1.

That 2-1 score held up throughout the remainder of the second, and in the third the Aces extended their lead to 3-1 midway through the frame when forward Peter Sivak lit the lamp for the 33rd time this season.

Cincinnati began the comeback not long after, as the power play brought them to within a goal at the 13:00 mark when a blast from the point from Lefebvre was tipped in by Zombo to bring the score to 3-2 in favor of Alaska.

Cincinnati completed their comeback with 18 seconds left in regulation when O’Donnell sent a pass to Knodel at the right point and he launched a one-timer past Aces goaltender Kevin Carr to tie the game, 3-3.

After a scoreless overtime which featured a myriad of Cyclones scoring chances, the teams headed to the shootout. In the skills competition, Huard potted the only goal while Cincinnati netminder Mark Visentin stopped all three shots to give the ‘Clones a 4-3 shootout win.

The Cyclones were outshot, 33-30 on the night, with Visentin stopping 30 in the win. Cincinnati heads to Ft. Wayne next Saturday in their lone game of the week to take on the Komets. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30pm ET.
