ZOMBO SET TO RETURN TO CINCINNATI

Cyclones Lock Up Key Piece from Last Season’s Squad

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud ECHL affiliate of the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Rochester Americans and the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Buffalo Sabres, have re-signed forward Dominic Zombo to a Standard Player Contract (SPC) for the 2017-18 season.

“We are happy to announce the return of Dominic Zombo for next season- a solid piece of our offensive group last year,” said Cyclones Head Coach Matt Macdonald. “Dominic is a versatile player who we used in many different positions, and was solid everywhere we had him play. He brings great character back to our team and a high level of compete and professionalism in our room."

Hailing from Ballwin, MO, Zombo ranked ninth on the team in scoring last season, accounting for 12 goals and 11 assists for 23 total points in 63 games played. He had multi-point efforts on two occasions, and his best stretch offensively came in January where he accounted for six points (2g, 4a) over six games from January 20-28.

“I’m really excited to be heading back to Cincinnati,” commented Zombo. “The Cyclones are consistently one of the best organizations in the League, from the great coaching and support staff to the city of Cincinnati as a whole. I can’t wait to get the season started.”

Zombo spent his rookie season in Toledo in 2015-16, appearing in 69 games with the Walleye and accounting for 10 goals and 16 assists, along with 36 penalty minutes. He helped Toledo to a first-place finish in the Eastern Conference that season, and appeared in five playoff games where he dished out a pair of assists. The Walleye fell to the Reading Royals in the first round, 4 games to 3.

Prior to his time in Toledo, the 5’10”, 185-pounder was a four-year letter winner for the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he served as an assistant captain during his junior season of 2013-2014, and was named team captain the following year during his senior season. He appeared in 137 games over four seasons with the Mavericks where he totaled 36 goals and 50 assists for 80 points. Before his collegiate days, Zombo played his junior hockey for the Sioux Falls Stampede of the United States Hockey League (USHL), recording 28 goals and 29 assists in 111 games over parts of three seasons.
