CYCLONES CONTINUE NORTH DIVISION SWING WITH THREE GAMES THIS WEEK
The Cyclones look to close out a three-game set with Wheeling tomorrow night with a win before facing Kalamazoo twice this weekend.
THIS PAST WEEK:
About Saturday Night in Wheeling: Mathieu Aubin buried his first game-winning goal of the season with just 58 seconds left in regulation to lift the Cyclones to a thrilling 3-2 win over the Nailers at WesBanco Arena. Chet Pickard turned aside 26 shots to earn his fourth win of the season.
About Friday Night vs. Wheeling: The Nailers used a three goal first period and stingy defense to beat the Cyclones by a 6-3 final score in front of 5,960 at U.S. Bank Arena on Friday night. Brady Calla scored his first two goals as a Cyclone while Dustin Sproat posted three-assists for the second time this year.
About Wednesday Night vs. Kalamazoo: Defenseman T.J. Fast buried his first game-winning goal of the season just 41 seconds into overtime to give the Cyclones a 3-2 victory over the Wings in front of 2,661 at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday night. It was Cincinnati’s fourth consecutive victory.
STORYLINES:
Road Warriors: The Cyclones have had their best success away from U.S. Bank Arena this season. They have won four consecutive games on the road, which is the longest active streak in the ECHL. Their overall away record stands at 10-5-5. In fact, they are one of just four teams in the Eastern Conference with double-digit road victories.
Keeping it Close: Cincinnati has found itself in very tight games this season. They have played in an ECHL-high 21 one-goal games. In such situations this year, they have posted a 10-4-7 record. As a frame of reference, the 2009-10 Cyclones had 28 one-goal games in the entire season.
Weapons from Everywhere: Of the 18 active skaters on the Cyclones roster, 13 of them have registered multi-point games this season. Mathieu Aubin, Brian O’Hanley, Dustin Sproat and Matt Pierce are all tied for the team’s active lead with four such games. Dylan Hunter has five multi-point tilts, however, he is currently playing with Milwaukee.
