THIS PAST WEEK:

About Saturday Night in Wheeling:
The Nailers scored a trio of goals in the first period and never looked back as they defeated the Cyclones by a 6-2 final score in front of 4,046 at WesBanco Arena.  Mikael Bedard, David Marshall, and Doug Rogers each posted four point nights.  Cincinnati’s Dustin Sproat netted a goal for the third consecutive game while Sam D’Agostino found the net for the 10th time this season.

About Friday Night vs. Wheeling:  The Nailers scored a trio of goals in a 1:47 span to help pick up a 6-3 victory over the Cyclones in front of 4,861 at U.S. Bank Arena.  The victory was Wheeling’s fifth in six trips to Cincinnati this season.  Mathieu Aubin regained his lead on the Cincinnati scoring leaderboard with a three-point night while Dustin Sproat potted two goals in a losing effort.

About Wednesday vs. South Carolina: Defenseman Zach Jones netted his first professional goal at the 2:52 mark of overtime, giving the Stingrays a 3-2 victory over the Cyclones at U.S. Bank Arena.  Despite the loss, Cyclones defenseman Adam Comrie registered his third goal in as-many games while Dustin Sproat found the net as well.  The ‘Clones earned five out of a possible six points against the ‘Rays in the 3-game set.

STORYLINES:

Sproat’s Scoring Success
: After a four-goal week, Cyclones forward Dustin Sproat has jumped into 6th place on the franchise scoring leaderboard - posting 120 points as a member of the Cyclones.  He has now found the net in five of his last seven games.  Sproat is tied for the team lead in goals (14) and ranks third in points (27).  His performance last week earned him an ECHL Player of the Week nomination.

Southern Comfort:  The Cyclones will look to improve upon some terrific numbers against the South Division this year.  Coming into tonight, the ‘Clones have earned a 6-1-2 record  against the “South” including a three-game sweep of the Everblades in early January.  In fact, there are only three other teams in the ECHL that have posted a winning mark against the South Division (Reading, Greenville, South Carolina).  Cincinnati has outscored their opponents in those games 31-24 and have outshot them by a total of 302-227.

“Chevy’s” Driving to Triple-A:  Cyclones rookie goaltender Marc Cheverie was recalled to the Rochester Americans today.  The Florida Panthers 2006 seventh-round draft pick will make his first career trip to the Triple-A level, becoming the 14th Cyclone to appear on an American Hockey League roster this year.  This season with Cincinnati, Cheverie has earned a 13-9-5 record with a 3.11 goals-against average.

The New Guy:  Today the Cyclones acquired forward Paul McIlveen from the Greenville Road Warriors in exchange for the ECHL rights to Chris Clackson.   McIlveen, a fourth-year pro, had registered 13 points (4 goals, 9 assists) in 37 games with the Road Warriors.  In 205 games as a professional, McIlveen has potted 51 goals and added 72 helpers to go along with 168 penalty minutes.  He also spent a pair of seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, where he collected 128 points (52 goals, 76 assists) in 116 games.
