Cyclones Agree to Terms With Boisvert, Trupp, Scarsella

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, announced today that they have agreed to terms with forwards Erik Boisvert, Evan Trupp, and Vinny Scarsella for the 2011-12 season.

Boisvert, a 24-year-old Drummondville, Quebec native, will embark on his first ECHL campaign after playing with a pair of teams last season in the Central Hockey League (Dayton and Evansville). Combined in 2010-11, the five-foot-eight, 165-pound forward amassed 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists) in 64 total games. Prior to going pro, he played collegiately at Sacred Heart University – where he was a four-year letter-winner. In 139 career games during that span, he compiled 104 points (43 goals, 61 assists). Boisvert comes from some successful hockey roots; his father, Serge, won a Stanley Cup as a member of the Montreal Canadiens in 1986 before enjoying a long career overseas.

“Erik already has a year under his belt and plays well in all three zones,” said Cyclones Head Coach Jarrod Skalde. “He comes from a hockey background with his father playing in the National Hockey League and has been around the game a long time. He conducts himself like a pro and I’m excited to have him with us this year.”

Trupp, a five-foot-ten, 155-pound forward is coming off a solid four-year career at University of North Dakota. In 157 collegiate games, the Anchorage, Alaska native amassed 108 points (40 goals, 68 assists) and finished among the top-four scorers for the Fighting Sioux in each of his last two seasons. A year ago, Trupp posted 17 goals, which ranked third on the team and more than doubled his previous career high of eight. He was named the BCHL Rookie of the Year in 2005-06 and earned WCHA Tournament MVP accolades in 2009-10.

“Evan is a dynamic player who works extremely hard and competes in all areas,” said Skalde. “He has had a very successful career at a very good school and I see him as a guy who can make an immediate impact for us in his first year.”

Scarsella proved to be one of the most dangerous offensive weapons for Canisius College during his four-year career. He posted 133 points (40 goals, 93 assists) in 144 career games. It didn’t take him long to make an impact with the Griffins; the Lackawanna, New York native led the team in scoring during his rookie season (2007-08) with 31 points and finished among the top-five point-getters in all four of his collegiate seasons. In fact, he ranked in second place on the team’s scoring list in each of his last two years, finishing behind former Cyclones forward Cory Conacher. In 2009-10, he was selected to the AHA All-Conference team. After finishing his senior campaign, Scarsella made his professional debut with the Elmira Jackals (ECHL), notching a pair of assists in eight games.

“Vinny is a great skater and a high-energy player,” said Skalde. “He has a tremendous offensive upside after a great college career. He was teammates with [former Cyclone] Cory Conacher at Canisius and proved to be a dangerous offensive duo. I look forward to watching him compete and bring a spark to our team.”
