TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight the Cyclones look to close out their brief three-game home stand with another victory as they welcome the Reading Royals into Cincinnati for the one and only time this season. The Royals earned a 3-2 victory on October 22 in the only previous meeting this year. Since 2006, Cincinnati has dominated the Royals in regular season play, going 30-16-5-4 - including a 15-8-2-4 mark at U.S. Bank Arena.
TONIGHT'S PROMOTION: Cyclones Bobblehead T-Shirt Night presented by Plastic Surgery Group - The first 2,000 adults through the gates will receive the FREE Cyclones T-Shirt. Plus, $1 John Morrell Hot Dogs will be available to all fans.
SCOUTING THE ROYALS: Larry Courville’s club finds itself stuck in a tight Atlantic Division race. They are just one point behind division-leading Wheeling but on the flip-side, hold just a one-point edge over the Elmira Jackals. The Royals are an impressive 5-2-0-0 away from the Sovereign Center this season, which is tied for the most road wins in the ECHL. Reading’s Olivier Labelle paces his team in scoring with 14 points (10 goals, 4 assists) and is atop the league leader board with five power-play goals to-date. Forward Yannick Riendeau has been equally as good this season, posting 14 points in just 11 games. With Mark Owyua on recall in Toronto, the Royals have relied on net minder Karl St. Laurent between the pipes over the last handful of games. The rookie back-stop started his pro career in the American Hockey League with Providence, where he collected a 1-0-1 record and a 3.46 goals-against average. In five games this year with the Royals, St. Laurent has earned a 2-3-0 record with a 3.35 goals-against average.
“Auby” Close to Another Climb: Cincinnati mainstay Mathieu Aubin continues to climb up the franchise record in several categories. He has posted points in four-straight games and is just 3 assists shy of passing Sheldon Gorski for second on the all-time list. Mathieu has earned 91 “helpers” in 169 games in a Cyclones jersey. Including tonight, he has played in the fifth-most games played for the franchise (170).
Late Game Magic: Garrett Suter’s game-winner came in the final half-minute of regulation on Saturday. Cincinnati has been a very strong third period team this season, outscoring their opponents 11-7 in the final frame while outshooting them a total of 95-70. In fact, eight of those 11 third period goals came in the final 10 minutes.
Spreading the Offensive Love: The Cyclones have found help on the scoresheet from many different sources. In fact, all but three Cincinnati skaters have earned at least a point this season. They have had 10 different goal-scorers.
