TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight the Cyclones will play just its second home game of the season in hopes of snapping a four-game losing skid as they welcome the Atlantic Division basement-dwellers into Cincinnati, the Trenton Titans. The Clones only win this season so far came against the Titans back on October 23, when they earned a 3-0 shutout at the Sun Center. Since 2006, Cincinnati owns a 23-12-2-0 record in the All-Time Series.
TONIGHT'S PROMOTION: Military Appreciation Night - The Cyclones will wear specialty jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game to benefit AFTA. Plus, all fans in attendance will receive a FREE Cyclones Car Magnet!
SCOUTING THE TITANS: Trenton is riding high after picking up back-to-back wins, including a 4-1 thumping of Kalamazoo last night at Wings Stadium. Despite their recent success, they still pull up the rear in the Atlantic Division standings with a 4-7-0-0 record. Their team defense currently ranks in a last-place tie with 44 goals allowed this season. Yet, they have amassed the second-most goals scored in the entire Eastern Conference (36). Randy Rowe leads the Titans in scoring, averaging a point-per-game thus far (11 points in 11 games) while Dustin Cameron is close on his heels with 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists) in the same stretch. Brad Phillips, who suffered the loss against Cincinnati last month, has split time with former Ohio State Buckeye Dave Caruso in net this season. Phillips’ record stands at 1-4-0-0 with a 3.65 goals-against average while Caruso has pulled in a 3-3-0 record and a 4.03 goals-against average.
“Auby” Close to Another Climb: Cincinnati mainstay Mathieu Aubin continues to climb up the franchise record in several categories. After another assist last night, he is just 3 assists shy of passing Sheldon Gorski for second on the all-time list. Mathieu has earned 91 “helpers” in 167 games in a Cyclones jersey.
Staying out of the Sin Bin: Despite the melee last Saturday against Chicago, Cincinnati remains the least penalized in the ECHL. So far in 2011-12, the Clones have accumulated only 112 penalty minutes (PIMS). They are averaging just 16 PIM per game.
Natural Born Killers: Cincinnati’s penalty kill unit, although not terribly busy thus far, has been very solid. They have extinguished 23 out of a possible 29 opponent power plays, good for the eighth-best efficiency rate in the ECHL. (79.3%).
Power Surge: Through the first seven games of this season, Cincinnati’s power play ranks fourth in the ECHL with the a 23.8% conversion rate (10-for-42). Mathieu Aubin and Anthony Luciani are each tied for third in the ECHL with 2 power play goals apiece. The Clones have registered at least one man-advantage goal in each of their last four games.
Movember Pride: Movember kicks off its 5th annual world-wide campaign in the US, challenging men across the country to show their support by growing a Mo (slang for moustache) this November. Cyclones players, coaches, and staff have started a Movember “team” and are encouraging fans to compete with each other & show support for the initiative. Fans will have an opportunity to show off their own staches on Wednesday, November 23 at U.S. Bank Arena. The Cincinnati Cyclones first $1 Beer night of the season will double as a “Movember Party”
