THIS PAST WEEK:

About Sunday Afternoon in Wheeling: Chris Barton’s goal in round three of the shootout proved to be the game-winning strike as the Nailers came from behind to earn a 4-3 win over the Cyclones in front of 2,342 at WesBanco Arena. It was Cincinnati’s fifth shootout defeat of the season and the second time they have played back-to-back overtime games. Mathieu Aubin and Anthony Luciani each had multi-point games in a losing effort.

About Saturday Night vs. Wheeling: Rob Slaney posted a three-point night including the game-winning goal at the 2:36 mark of overtime, giving the Cyclones a 5-4 triumph over the Nailers in front of 5,545 at U.S. Bank Arena. It was the first time this season that the Cyclones won a game in the extra session (excluding shootouts). Slaney becomes the fifth Cyclone this season to have a three-point night or better.

About Friday Night vs. Kalamazoo: Goaltender Maxime Clermont turned aside 31 shots while Trent Daavettila potted the game winning goal as the Wings defeated the Cyclones by a 3-1 final score in front of 4,989 at U.S. Bank Arena. David Leaderer posted the lone goal for Cincinnati, which dropped a home game in regulation for just the second time this season.

SHOTS FROM THE POINT:

Battle For Second Place after the Break: The Cyclones have reached the 2011 All-Star Break with a record of 15-12-0-5 and trail the second-place Chicago Express by just three points with five games in hand. A year ago at this time, Cincinnati sat at 17-17-7 - which amounts to a .475 winning percentage. This season, Jarrod Skalde’s team has amassed a .546 mark. The Cyclones will open their second half schedule on Friday night with the opener of a two-game set against the Express at U.S. Bank Arena.

Cahill Gets Another Call: For the second time this season, Cyclones forward Chris Cahill was called up to the Milwaukee Admirals on Sunday. Prior to the promotion, he had registered a point in 7 of his last 11 games with the Cyclones and had at least a goal in 4 of his last 7 games. The rookie is still in search of his first AHL point after six games with the Admirals.

Picking Up Where He Left Off: Mathieu Aubin returned from a four-game stint with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers last Thursday and immediately made an impact with the Cyclones. He notched points on Saturday and Sunday, including a multi-point effort on Sunday against Wheeling. He remains atop the Cyclones scoring list with 30 points (14 goals, 16 assists) in 26 games.

Pelech Pacing for History: Cyclones centerman Mike Pelech has earned 28 points in 30 games this season. He is on pace for a 67-point season, which would be sixth-best mark in franchise history. It would also be the first time since 2008-09 that a Cyclones player earned 65 points or more (Mark Van Guilder had 70).
