Cyclones Agree to Terms with Matt Sisca and Jared Gomes for 2012-13

CINCINNATI , Ohio – The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, announced today that forwards Matt Sisca and Jared Gomes have agreed to terms with the club for the 2012-13 season.

Sisca, a five-foot-eight, 175-pound forward will be returning to the Cyclones after an impressive first season that garnered ECHL All-Rookie team honors. He began the 2011-12 campaign with the Bakersfield Condors where he accumulated 27 points (8 goals, 19 assists) in 34 games. He was traded to the Cyclones on January 12, 2012 and went on to contribute 39 points (15 goals, 24 assists) with 30 penalty minutes in 43 contests. The Woodbridge, Ontario native had eight multi-point games for Cincinnati and tied for the lead on the team with five game-winning goals. Prior to beginning his professional career, Sisca played for three different teams over a five-year period in the OHL and one season in the OPJHL. He totaled 177 points (72 goals, 105 assists) during his days as an amateur.

“Matt was a tremendous contributor for us last season,” said Cyclones Head Coach Jarrod Skalde. “He is an offensive threat every time he is on the ice and improved steadily as the year went along. We’re very eager to watch him build upon his excellent rookie year.”

Gomes, a Brampton, Ontario native, will be entering his first season as a professional. He posted 85 points (48 goals, 37 assists) in 84 games over three seasons at the University of Prince Edward Island. The six-foot-one, 174 pound forward was named Rookie of the Year by both the AUS and CIS for the 2009-10 season. During his final collegiate season he was selected as an AUS All Star. Prior to playing at the University of Prince Edward Island, Gomes spent four seasons in the OHL where he amassed 152 points (75 goals, 77 assists) in 256 games. He also spent one season playing in the OPJHL.

“We are extremely excited to add Jared to our group,” said Skalde. “He is a guy who can play in all situations and is a mature person and player.”

On Saturday, October 13, the Cyclones will host the second-annual Power Play 5K Run/Walk followed by the 2012 First Face-Off against the Wheeling Nailers at U.S. Bank Arena.
