TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After earning their first come-from-behind victory of the season last night here in Elmira, the Cyclones are the only team in the ECHL who has yet to lose a game in regulation. Tonight, they’ll put their 3-0-1 record on the line for the second straight night against the 4-1 Jackals. Cincinnati extended its edge in the all-time series to 18-12-0-3…with 9 of those wins coming at First Arena.
SCOUTING THE JACKALS: Dwight Mullins’ club had its four-game winning streak snapped last night and, because of another Trenton win, has fallen back into second place in the Atlantic Division standings. Elmira has out-scored its opponents by a combined total of 21-8 in the first five contests…thanks in part to Dustin Gazely. Last year’s ECHL Rookie of the Year is tied for fourth in the league with eight points (3 goals, 5 assists) and is tied for the lead in game-winning goals (2). However, he was held scoreless in last night’s series opener. Former Cyclone Marc Cheverie played between the pipes last night for the Jackals, turning aside 33 shots in a losing effort. Elmira also has the services of Maxime Clermont, who spent last season with the Kalamazoo Wings. A year ago, he posted a 13-10-1-2 record with a 3.42 goals against average.
Remarkable Rookie: Cincinnati forward David Pacan has impressed in the early going this year. In his first three professional games, he has collected five points (1 goal, 4 assists) which ties him for fifth among the ECHL’s first-year players.
No Shots for You: Similar to a year ago, the Clones are keeping their opponents shots-on-goal totals to a minimum. Through three games, Cincinnati is allowing an average of 26.8 shots per game - the sixth-fewest in the league.
Spreading the Wealth: Cincinnati has found offense from many different sources this season. In fact, 17 different players have put their name on the score sheet in some capacity (whether a goal or an assist). Six different Cyclones have registered multi-point games through the first four games.
