THIRSTY THURSDAY / GREEK NIGHT
TODAY'S MATCHUP: Less than 24 hours after falling in overtime to Kalamazoo, the Cyclones are on the road as they close out their three-game weekend with a visit to the Wheeling Nailers. The Cyclones have taken all three meetings with their West Virginia foes this season, outscoring them by a total of 7-3. Since 2006, the Clones own a 41-30-0-2 record.
SCOUTING THE NAILERS: Like the Cyclones, Clark Donatelli’s club has earned points in four straight games and sits 14 points back of Reading in the Atlantic Division standings. With three of their top four scorers out of the lineup, Paul Crowder is far and away the Nailers’ top scorer. He has posted 15 goals and 18 assists in 38 games. Second-year pro Chris Barton has amassed 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in as many games. With Patrick Killeen now in Orlando, Scott Darling and Peter Delmas have assumed the duties between the pipes. Darling ranks sixth among active ECHL goalies with a 2.52 goals-against average and a 9-5-1-1 record. Delmas is 8-4-0-2 this season with a 2.54 GAA.
Strong Finishers: Cincinnati’s trademark has been its ability to get late offense. They have scored 53 times in the third period of games this year - ranking among the league’s top three in this category. Cincy has scored in the third period in four straight games.
Pelly Returns: After spending the last week in the AHL, Cyclones forward Mike Pelech has returned to the Queen City. Despite missing the last four Cincinnati games, he still ranks second on the team in scoring with 34 points (8 goals, 26 assists). The Clones are 14-4-3 when he finds the score sheet.
