PUCKCHOP BOBBLEHEAD NIGHT PRESENTED BY THE PLASTIC SURGERY GROUP
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After another convincing home win on Tuesday, the Cyclones hit the road tonight as they play their final game at Wings Stadium against Kalamazoo. Cincinnati has rung up a 3-2-1 record in their season series with the Wings; all but one of the match-ups have been decided by a single goal. Since 2006, the Clones have accumulated a 24-20-3-3 mark against their Mitten State foes.
SCOUTING THE WINGS: Nick Bootland’s club has won five of its last six games and have pulled to within 15 points of Cincinnati in the North Division standings and just five points out of the eighth and final playoff spot. Aaron Clarke sits atop the Wings scoring list, posting 46 points (17 goals, 29 assists) in 56 games. Brett Lysak, who ranks second on the team in tallies, has been the biggest weapon against the Clones this season; in five match-ups, Lysak has notched 7 points (4 goals, 3 assists). Joel Martin snapped his unprecedented 39-game start streak over the weekend, but remains the go-to-guy in net for K-Zoo. This year, the veteran backstop has earned an 25-20-4-1 record with a 2.62 goals-against average. Versus Cincinnati this year, Martin has gone 3-2-0-1 with a 2.63 GAA.
A February to Remember: With a win on Tuesday, the Cyclones tied the second-most February wins in club history. The 2009-10 club went 9-2-2 that February and the 2007-08 earned a perfect 13-0 second month. This year’s group finished 9-2-0-1.
Spotting a Trend: Cincinnati has scored first in 34 of their games this season - amounting to 58.6% of the time. Only two other teams have scored first on more occasions (Gwinnett and Alaska). Even more impressive, the Clones have amassed a 27-5-1-1 record in such situations - giving them the sixth best winning percentage in the ECHL in this category.
