INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – David Pacan and Brian Nugent each enjoyed two-point games to help lift the Cincinnati Cyclones (7-5-0-2) to a 3-2 win over the Indy Fuel (3-9-2-2) in front of 5,484 on Friday night.
The Fuel struck first at 7:59 of the opening period when Garett Bembridge fired in his third goal of the season past Rob Madore (W, 22 saves, 5-3-0-2) after catching a feed from Mike Duco in the left circle. Cincinnati answered back minutes later, at 11:55, when Kevin Sullivan threaded a great pass to Brian Nugent who delivered a laser accurate wrist shot over Mac Carruth (L, 29 saves, 0-3-1-2) and in to knot things at one. The teams would remain deadlocked after 20 minutes.
Cincinnati jumped ahead for the first time just 1:21 of the middle stanza when Zach Budish notched his second goal of the season from a sharp angle, beating Carruth from just outside the goal line. Byron Froese collected an assist on the strike, which extended his point-scoring streak to six games. At the other end of the ice, the Cyclones buckled down defensively and allowed just six shots in the frame to remain ahead by a goal through two periods of play.
The visitors extended their edge to a pair when David Pacan was the recipient of a great bounce in the right circle and slammed in his first goal of the year at 2:18, making it a 3-1 game. However, the Fuel made it a close one late with a power play goal from Rhett Bly at the 15:38 mark to give his team some life. Fortunately, in the final minutes, Cincinnati's penalty kill came up big and extinguished the final minutes to secure a 3-2 victory.
