MOLINE, Illinois – A four point night for forward Andrew Yogan highlighted a strong showing by the Cincinnati Cyclones (3-1-0-0) as they defeated the Quad City Mallards (2-3-0-0) by a 5-4 final score in front of 4,126 at the iWireless Center on Saturday night.
The Cyclones needed just 90 seconds to light the lamp in the opening period, as Andrew Yogan buried his second goal of the season past Parker Milner (L, 22 saves, 1-2-0-0) to make it 1-0. However, the Mallards potted back-to-back strikes at 4:02 and 12:16 respectively from Joe Perry and Justin Fox to take their first lead of the weekend at 2-1. Fortunately, Cincinnati answered back with a tally courtesy of Stephan Vigier - who caught a backhanded feed from Yogan at the top of the goal crease and lit the lamp to even things at two through 20 minutes.
Cincinnati burst out to a two goal cushion early into the middle stanza when Michael Neal and Josh McFadden each netted power play strikes in a three minute span. Quad City answered with a goal of their own at the 5:03 mark when Todd Fiddler finished off an odd-man rush by firing a shot past Sam Brittain (W, 27 saves, 2-0-0-0) to make it a 4-3 game after two periods.
The final period was another close one that ultimately came down to the wire. Just 1:44 into the final period, the Cyclones pulled back ahead by two when Joe Basaraba potted his third goal of the year with a nice wrist shot from between the circles. However, like Friday night, the Mallards hung around; at the 6:48 mark, Fox deposited his second goal of the contest from a sharp angle to make it a 5-4 game. Also like the weekend series opener, though, the Cyclones fought off a late game rally and sealed their second one-goal win in as-many nights - a 5-4 final score.
The Cyclones will return to U.S. Bank Arena on Friday, November 7 when they welcome in the Indy Fuel at 7:30pm.
