INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – A pair of goals for Garett Bembridge proved to be just enough to lift the Indy Fuel (4-9-2-2) past the Cincinnati Cyclones (7-6-0-2) by a 5-3 final score in front of 3,553 at Fairgrounds Coliseum on Saturday night.
The Cyclones opened the scoring at 2:08 of the first period as David Pacan fed Michael Neal who slammed in a power play strike to make it 1-0. Unfortunately, the Fuel rattled off four straight goals to claim the momentum, two of which came with the man advantage; first Mathieu Brisebois picked up a power play goal of his own at 5:24 followed by lamplighters from Adam McKenzie, Garett Bembridge, and Mike Duco to make it a 4-1 game after 20 minutes.
The Cyclones answered back quickly in the second period, as Byron Froese and Patrick Cehlin scored goals at 3:17 and 8:50 respectively to cut the deficit to one. And thanks to eight middle period saves from Rob Madore (L, 26 saves, 5-4-0-2), Cincinnati trailed by a slim 4-3 score after two periods.
Indy wasted little time in the third period getting back on the scoreboard, as Garett Bembridge cashed in a wraparound goal just 56 seconds in to regain a two-goal cushion. As the Cyclones got whistled for three straight penalties, a comeback bid would fall short as the Fuel held on for a 5-3 victory. Fuel goaltender Cody Reichard (W, 25 saves, 4-4-1-0) earned his fourth win of the season.
