CYCLONES WIN OVERTIME THRILLER AGAINST WHEELING

Cincinnati Victorious After Nailers Tie Game in Third

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (33-22-4-3) picked up a 3-2 overtime win over the Wheeling Nailers on Friday night. Forwards Peter Quenneville and Joe Wilson scored the lone goals in regulation, while forward Branden Gracel netted the game-winner in overtime.

Cincinnati struck first in this one, as with 95 seconds left in the first period, defenseman Garrett Noonan took a shot that was deflected by forward Seth Ambroz right to Quenneville who, in turn, deflected it into the net, giving the Cyclones a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes.

The Cyclones struck again a couple of minutes after the halfway mark of the second, when forward Zach Budish sent a pass to Wilson from behind the net and he wristed a shot off of the crossbar and into the net, putting Cincinnati ahead, 2-0.

The Nailers cut the lead in half late in the frame when defenseman Clark Seymour fired a shot through traffic and in, cutting the Cyclones’ lead to 2-1 after two periods.

In the third the Nailers picked up another power play goal from Seymour, 12:33 in, to pull the Nailers even with the Cyclones, 2-2.

Cincinnati killed off a 5-on-3 penalty late in the third, backed by a number of huge saves by goaltender Brad Thiessen, and the two sides remained tied, 2-2, headed into overtime.

After the Cyclones killed off the remainder of a penalty that carried over from the third, Cincinnati did not take long to net the game winner, when Gracel took a shot that was initially blocked by traffic, but he got his own rebound and blasted the puck into the net, sending the Cyclones to a 3-2 overtime win.

The Cyclones outshot the Nailers, 33-30 on the night, with Thiessen stopping 29 to collect the win. The Cyclones wrap up the weekend on Sunday in Evansville against the IceMen. Faceoff is scheduled for 6:15pm ET.
