CYCLONES RECEIVE ECHL MARKETING AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
Cincinnati Takes Home Award for Second Time
Cincinnati, OH- The ECHL has announced that the Cincinnati Cyclones are the 2015-16 recipient of the ECHL Award of Excellence for Marketing. The award recognizes the ECHL team that executes a well-rounded marketing, sponsorship and advertising campaign, with consideration given to sponsorship sales, advertising, marketing campaign and promotions.
“We are honored to receive this award,” said Cyclones Director of Marketing Sean Lynn. “This accolade serves as validation to the hard work put forth by our marketing team. To be recognized in such a way by the ECHL and our peers is truly special. We will continue to elevate the great game of hockey in the Cincinnati market as we look to engage new and existing fans in unique and creative ways.”
Led by Lynn, Ian Bolender, and Matt Scheer, the Cyclones’ marketing department continued the successful “More Than Just A Game” marketing campaign, which reinforces the message that the family fun of a Cyclones game is more than just what happens on the ice.
The 2015-16 season was highlighted by new pregame introductions for players, and five major promotional nights which featured specialty jerseys, including The Cure Starts Now Night, Superhero Night, Star Wars Night, Pink in the Rink for Breast Cancer Awareness, and St. Patrick’s Day Celebration. The Cyclones also saw success with long-standing promotions, such as Winter Hat Giveaway Night, Blanket Giveaway Night, Throwback Night, Hockey Buddy Night and Fan Appreciation Night.
Additionally, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Night was added to this past season’s promotional schedule, and had the widest impact on the 2015-16 season. The February 27th contest resulted in the first-ever sellout crowd in team history with 16,529 fans in attendance, and it also stands as the second-largest crowd in ECHL history.
“I’m thrilled to see my staff receive this award,” said Cyclones General Manager Kristin Ropp. “This is a passionate group of people who work tirelessly on improving the hockey culture in Cincinnati and turning people into fans one game at a time.”
The Cyclones also saw an increase in digital, television, and grassroots marketing, which was responsible for reaching more fans in the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area than ever before. As a result, the Cyclones saw an increase in overall average attendance.
