CYCLONES ADD TWO MORE TO 2016-17 ROSTER

Defense and Goaltending the Focus of Latest Acquisitions

Cincinnati, OH- Cincinnati Cyclones Head Coach Matt Macdonald has announced that defenseman Sam Posa and goaltender Steve Racine have signed Standard Player Contracts (SPC) for the 2016-2017 season. Posa spent last season with Cortina SG in Italy, while Racine just completed a successful collegiate career at the University of Michigan.

A native of Grand Blanc, MI, Posa netted three goals and dished out 14 assists for Cortina last season, tying him for the team lead in points amongst defensemen. He also racked up a team-high 42 penalty minutes. Prior to his time in Italy, the 5’10”, 176-pounder appeared in 42 games for the Indy Fuel during the second half of the 2014-15 season accounting for a goal and seven assists.

Posa skated the first half of 2014-15 and the latter portion of 2013-14 with the University of Windsor, appearing in 28 games and totaling 17 points (6g, 11a). He began his pro career at the start of the 2013-14 season with the Missouri Mavericks of the Central Hockey League (CHL) skating in 24 games and accounting for eight points (2g, 6a). Prior to turning pro, Posa played his junior hockey for the Windsor Spitfires and Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) from 2009-2013. He helped lead Windsor to a Memorial Cup championship in 2009-10.

Racine heads to Cincinnati following a four-year career with the Wolverines where he compiled an overall record of 50-22-7, including a career-best 20-6-3 last season which was sixth best in the nation. His .914 save percentage last year was sixth best in a single season in Michigan Hockey history, and he was one of 26 nominees for Mike Richter Award (nation’s top goalie). He posted a 2.84 career goals against average along with a .909 SV%.

The Williamsville, NY, native backstopped Michigan to the Midwest Regional final of the 2016 NCAA Tournament, where they fell to the University of North Dakota at U.S. Bank Arena.
