CYCLONES PULL AWAY LATE TO WIN THIRD STRAIGHT

Cincinnati Wraps up Perfect Holiday Weekend

Ft. Wayne, IN-The Cincinnati Cyclones (10-5-1-0) skated to a 4-1 road victory against the Ft. Wayne Komets on Saturday night. Forwards Justin Danforth, Jesse Schultz, Winston Day Chief, and Mitch Nylen netted the goals for Cincinnati.

The Cyclones wasted little time finding the back of the net, as 7:07 into the first period forward Shawn O’Donnell took a shot from the slot that was kicked out by Komet goaltender Michael Houser, but Danforth was there to stuff in the rebound to give Cincinnati a 1-0 lead.  That lead became 2-0 moments later when Schultz took a pass from Danforth, and slid a shot in behind Houser for his fifth of the season.

Cincinnati took their 2-0 lead into the locker room after the first, and in the second the physicality ramped up, as Cincinnati’s Chris Leone and the Komets’ Taylor Crunk engaged in a fight, and O’Donnell and Ft Wayne’s Loucik Marcotte dropped the gloves, as well. Neither team found the back of the net in the second, and Cincinnati took their 2-0 lead into the locker room after 40 minutes.

The third period saw more physicality from both teams, and 13:11 in the Komets cut Cincinnati’s lead in half at 2-1, when forward Shawn Szydlowski lit the lamp on the power play.

Cincinnati was not deterred and put the game away on a pair of empty net goals; one from Day Chief from the right-wing center red line at 18:56, and a second at 19:10 from Nylen off a shot from forward Rob De Fulviis that ricocheted of the end boards to seal the Cyclones’ 4-1 win.

The Cyclones were outshot, 38-25 on the evening, with goaltender Anthony Peters stopping 36 in the win. The Cyclones return home on Wednesday night to take on the Reading Royals. Face-off is slated for 7:35pm ET.
