Cincinnati Takes Spirited Affair on Home Ice

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (13-9-1-0) earned a 6-3 win over the Ft. Wayne Komets on Wednesday night. Forward Justin Vaive netted a pair of goals, while forwards Winston Day ChiefJustin DanforthJesse Schultz, and Daniel Muzito-Bagenda added lone tallies for Cincinnati, who snapped their four-game losing streak.

After the Komets took a 1-0 lead on a goal from forward Shawn Szydlowski, the Cyclones pulled even 12:43 into the frame when Muzito-Bagenda took a shot on goal, and Day Chief was in front to jam it in to tie the game, 1-1.

Cincinnati took the lead roughly two minutes later when Schultz threw a pass to Danforth as he entered the high slot, and he snapped a wrister in past Komets netminder Michael Houser to give the Cyclones a 2-1 edge.

The Cyclones took their 2-1 lead into the locker room after the first, and in the second the Komets tied the game, 2-2, 7:12 into the frame when forward Garrett Thompson lit the lamp.

Cincinnati was not deterred and regained the lead a little over a minute later when Vaive came streaking down the left side and trickled a shot in to give the ‘Clones a 3-2 lead after the second.

Cincinnati’s offense came to life early and often in the third, as just 3:38 into the frame while on the power play, defenseman Eric Knodel sent a pass to Schultz in the right circle, and he hammered a slapshot in to put the Cyclones ahead, 4-2.

That lead became 5-2 moments later, when forward Brandon McNally entered the offensive zone on a 2-on-1 rush and fed Muzito-Bagenda who tapped it in to put Cincinnati ahead by three, 8:02 into the third.

The Komets struck once more 20 seconds later when defenseman Bobby Shea made it 5-3, however Viave’s second of the night off a tip-in from a Knodel point shot on the power play sealed Cincinnati’s 6-3 win.

The Komets outshot Cincinnati, 41-21 on the night, with Cyclones goaltender Jonas Johansson stopping 38 for the win. Schultz tacked on three assists for a four-point night, while Vaive added a lone helper for a three-point outing. Emotions ran high in this one as well, as the two sides combined for 40 minutes in penalties on 17 infractions.

The Cyclones welcome in the Quad City Mallards on Friday night, in the first of two games between the two teams on the weekend.
