DAY CHIEF HAT TRICK PACES CYCLONES

Cincinnati Wins Second Straight Behind Offensive Explosion

Cincinnati, OH-The Cincinnati Cyclones (14-9-1-0) picked up a 6-1 win over the Quad City Mallards on Friday night. Forward Winston Day Chief led the way with three goals on the night, while forwards Jesse Schultz and Daniel Muzito-Bagenda, along with defenseman Chris Leone each lit the lamp once for Cincinnati Cyclones, who have outscored the opposition 12-4 over the last two games.

Cincinnati opened the scoring 1:39 into the first when forward Justin Vaive won a puck battle inside the offensive blueline and sent a pass to Schultz who skated in all alone on Mallards goaltender CJ Motte and wristed a shot in, giving Cincinnati a 1-0 lead.

The Cyclones took a 2-0 lead just past the midway point of the period when forward Brandon McNally took a shot from the left circle that was kicked out by Motte, but Day Chief crashed the net and slammed in the puck for his second goal in as many games.

Cincinnati took their 2-0 lead into the locker room after the first, and in the second the Cyclones continued their offensive explosion when McNally sent a pass to Muzito-Bagenda, and he snapped a shot in from the left circle on a delayed Mallards penalty, extending the Cyclones lead to 3-0.

That lead became 4-0 at the 14:48 mark when a shot from McNally was redirected in by Day Chief who was stationed in front of the net for his second of the night.

The Cyclones continued their forward motion late in the frame when Leone received a feed from forward Dominic Zombo and hammered a slapshot from the point to lift Cincinnati to a 5-0 advantage after 40 minutes.

Day Chief capped off his monster night midway through the third when he took a pass from Muzito-Bagenda and rifled a shot into the net to give Cincinnati a 6-0 lead.

The Mallards broke up the shutout late in the frame while on the power play when defenseman Willie Raskob found the back of the net, however that was all the offense they were able to muster, as the Cyclones skated off to a 6-1 win.

The Cyclones outshot Quad Mallards, 28-25 on the evening, with goaltender Anthony Peters stopping 24 to collect the win. Cincinnati and Quad City wrap up their weekend series on Saturday night. Face-off is slated for 7:35pm ET.
