Cincinnati Fall for First Time to Quad City

Moline, IL- The Cincinnati Cyclones (22-17-2-0) dropped a 4-3 decision to the Quad City Mallards on Wednesday night. Forwards Justin Danforth and Rob De Fulviis, along with defenseman Mike Barrett scored the goals for the Cyclones, who lose their first game in seven outings to the Mallards.

After Quad City took a 2-0 lead after the first period on a power play tally by forward Ryan McGrath and an even strength marker from forward Brayden Low, the Mallards tacked on one more early in the second from forward Gergo Nagy to take a 3-0 lead.

Cincinnati started to chip away and got on the board on the power play, when forward Daniel Muzito-Bagenda sent a pass to Danforth and he sniped a shot top shelf to put the ’Clones on the board, 3-1.

The Cyclones pulled to within a goal moments later when forward Alexander Taulien jarred the puck free to De Fulviis on the right side, and he walked along the goal line and lifted a backhander over the shoulder of Quad City goaltender CJ Motte to cut the Cincinnati deficit to 3-2 after 40 minutes.

Quad City regained their two-goal advantage early in the third when forward Triston Grant found the back of the net to put the Mallards up, 4-2.

Cincinnati battled back and managed cut the deficit to back within a goal with a little less than five minutes left, when forward Jesse Schultz sent a feed to Barrett in the right circle, and he rifled a shot up under the cross bar and in to trim the Mallard lead to 4-3.

Cincinnati continued their offensive attack and received numerous Grade A scoring chances with the goaltender pulled in the waning seconds but were unable to net the equalizer, and Quad City held on for the 4-3 win.

Shots were tied, 39-39, with goaltender Jason Kasdorf turning aside 35 in defeat. Cincinnati next heads to Kansas City for the first of two games with the Mavericks on Friday night. Face-off is slated for 8:05pm ET.
