CYCLONES CANNOT HOLD OFF WALLEYE
Late Toledo Surge Reels in Cincinnati
Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (38-28-3-0) fell to the Toledo Walleye, 4-2, on Saturday night. Forwards Alex Kile and Justin Vaive scored the goals for Cincinnati.
After a scoreless opening period, Cincinnati struck first 7:26 into the second, when forward Myles Powell sent a pass from behind the net to Kile, and he tipped the puck in to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead. After the Walleye tied the game, 1-1, on a goal from forward AJ Jenks, Cincinnati regained the lead late in the period while on the power play when an Eric Knodel point shot was redirected in by Vaive to put the Cyclones ahead, 2-1, after two periods.
The third period saw the Walleye turn up the offense, receiving three goals in a span of 1:42 from forwards Shane Berschbach, Kyle Bonis, and Austen Brassard to take a 4-2 lead late in the third. The Cyclones received a few more scoring chances in the final minutes, however Walleye goaltender Pat Nagle held firm to preserve Toledo’s 4-2 win.
The Cyclones outshot Toledo, 31-29, with goaltender Hayden Stewart stopping 25 in the loss. Cincinnati heads to Indy on Friday night to take on the Fuel. Face-off is scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
