CYCLONES SPARKED BY GLADIATORS
Cincinnati Cannot Overcome Second Period Hole
Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (35-26-3-0) fell, 6-2, to the Atlanta Gladiators on Thursday night. Forwards Alex Kile and Justin Vaive scored the goals for the Cyclones, while Atlanta’s Lindsay Sparks recorded a hat trick.
The Cyclones struck 6:06 into the opening period while on the power play when defenseman Eric Diodati dropped a pass to Kile in the high slot, and he launched a one-timer in to give Cincinnati a 1-0 lead. The momentum was short-lived, as Sparks found the back of the net at the14:49 mark to tie the game, 1-1, after 20 minutes.
In the second, the Cyclones wasted little time finding the back of the net, as just :22 into the frame Vaive finished off a 2-on-1 rush with forward Daniel Muzito-Bagenda to put Cincinnati back up, 2-1. The Gladiators were not deterred, and received two more goals from Sparks and lone tallies from defenseman Joe Gatenby and forward Derek Nesbit to take a 5-2 lead after two periods.
The third saw Cincinnati receive a myriad of Grade A scoring chances, however could not find the back of the net. Atlanta capped off the night with an empty-netter from Phil Lane to seal their 6-2 win. The Cyclones were outshot, 29-27 on the night, with goaltender Jason Kasdorf stopping 23 in the loss. The Cyclones and Gladiators wrap up their season series on Friday night, with the face-off scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
