SIMS HEADS BACK TO CINCINNATI

After Year Abroad, Cyclones Welcome Back Scoring Threat

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Buffalo Sabres and the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Rochester Americans, have announced the signing of forward Jordan Sims to a Standard Player Contract (SPC) for the 2018-19 season.

“We’re really excited to bring in a player of Jordan’s caliber,” said Cyclones head coach Matt Thomas. “He has proven he can score on a consistent basis in this league, and we look forward to him adding another dimension to our offense.”

A native of Ft. Wayne, IN, Sims is back for his second stint in Cincinnati after accounting for 14 points (8g, 6a) in 19 games for Lyon in France last season. As a Cyclone in 2016-17, Sims ranked third on the team in scoring with 44 points (15g, 29a) in 59 games played. His 29 assists placed him second on the team in that category, while he ranked third with a plus-7 on-ice rating.

“I am extremely excited to be back in a Cincinnati Cyclones jersey this season, remarked Sims. “Cincinnati is one of the best organizations in the league and I love this city. Matt [Thomas] and I had some good conversations about what he expects from this team in order for us to not just make the playoffs, but contend for a championship. I’m looking forward to getting the season started and seeing all the fans on opening night.”

Sims appeared in 64 games with the ECHL’s Evansville IceMen in 2015-16, ranking second on the team in scoring with 46 points (17g, 29a) and leading the team with a plus-18 on-ice rating. He also saw two games with the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL where he dished out one assist. He split the 2014-15 season between three teams, seeing action in 19 games with the IceMen, and five with the Idaho Steelheads. In 24 ECHL games that year, Sims totaled six points (2g-4a). He began his pro career that season with the Peoria Rivermen of the Southern Professional Hockey League, appearing in 33 games and totaling 21 points (9g,12a).

Prior to turning pro, Sims spent four years at the University of Connecticut where he posted 101 points (36g, 65a) in 146 career games.
