Cyclones Fall in Spirited Affair in Indy

Indianapolis, IN- The Cincinnati Cyclones (1-1-0-0) fell to the Indy Fuel, 4-1, on Friday night. Cyclones forward Spencer Dorowicz tallied the lone goal for the Cyclones; his third goal in his first two games of the season. The teams engaged in a physical battle as well, combining for 40 minutes of penalties, including a pair of fights.

It only took three minutes for Cincinnati to get on the board, as forward Brady Vail sent a pass from behind the net to Dorowicz out in front, and he tucked a shot under the crossbar to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.

The momentum was short lived however, as just 19 seconds later Indy forward Matt Rupert forced a turnover and beat Cyclones goaltender Jonas Johansson to tie the game, 1-1.

That 1-1 tie held up throughout the remainder of the first, and in the second, as was the case in the first, Cincinnati continued to pepper the Fuel net with shots, outshooting Indy, 31-19, through two periods. Despite the offensive chances, Indy received a pair of goals from forward Josh Shalla and one from forward Robert Powers to take a 4-1 lead through two periods.

The third saw more offensive chances for the Cyclones, and the frame was marked by a fight between Cincinnati’s Arvin Atwal and Indy’s Connor Moynihan. The ‘Clones were not able to solve Indy netminder Matt Tomkins again, and the Fuel held on for the 4-1 win.

Cincinnati outshot the Fuel, 40-25, with Johansson steering aside 21 in the loss. The Cyclones return home on Saturday night to take on the Wheeling Nailers. Face-off is scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
