CYCLONES COMEBACK COMES UP SHORT IN FINAL SECONDS

Two Goals in final 87 Seconds Not Enough as Winning Streak Snapped

Ft. Wayne, IN- The Cincinnati Cyclones (12-4-2-0) fell to the Ft. Wayne Komets, 3-2, on Saturday night. Forwards Jesse Schultz and Pascal Aquin lit the lamp for Cincinnati, who see their five-game winning streak snapped.

After the Komets took a 2-0 lead after opening period on goals from forwards Jamie Schaafsma and Shawn Szydlowski, Ft. extended their lead to 3-0 through 40 minutes, following a second period tally from forward J.C. Campagna.

In the third, Cincinnati mounted a comeback in the final 89 seconds of the period, when Schultz took a pass from defenseman Eric Knodelwhile on a 6-on-4, extra attacker power play, and he snapped in a shot from the right circle to cut the Cyclones’ deficit to 3-1. With nine seconds remaining on the clock, the ‘Clones added another when defenseman Arvin Atwal sent a pass to Aquin who danced around the defense into the offensive zone and scored to pull Cincinnati to within one, 3-2.

The Cyclones made one final push in the waning seconds, but were not able to net the equalizer, and the Komets held on for a 3-2 win. Cincinnati was outshot, 31-26, with goaltender Michael Houser stopping 28 in the loss. The Cyclones wrap up their three-game weekend on Sunday afternoon in Wheeling against the Nailers. Face off is scheduled for 3:05pm ET.
