CYCLONES SWEEP HOMESTAND WITH SECOND STRAIGHT OVER KALAMAZOO
Cincinnati Victorious for Ninth Time in 11 Tries
Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (11-3-2-0) collected a 6-3 win over the Kalamazoo Wings on Wednesday night, in front of 9,435 at U.S. Bank Arena. Defenseman Mitch Jones led the way with a pair of goals, while forwards Justin Vaive, Myles Powell, Pascal Aquin, and Vas Glotov notched singular tallies for the Cyclones.
The Cyclones took the lead just 1:29 into the opening period, when a point shot from defenseman Devante Stephens was tipped in by Vaive out front, putting Cincinnati up, 1-0.
After the Wings evened the game up, 1-1, on a goal by forward Wade Murphy, Cincinnati regained the lead, 2-1, at the 16:41 mark of the period while on the power play, when Powell took a pass from defenseman Arvin Atwal, and snapped a shot in for his eighth goal in the last six games.
Kalamazoo was not deterred and pulled back even one minute later, when forward Justin Taylor lit the lamp for the ninth time this season to tie the game back up, 2-2, after 20 minutes.
In the second, the Wings only needed 30 seconds to take their first lead of the night when Taylor netted his second of the night to give Kalamazoo a 3-2 edge. The Cyclones responded quickly roughly a minute and a half later while shorthanded, when defenseman Eric Knodel sent a pass up to Aquin who split the defense, skated in on goal, and scored to pull Cincinnati back even, 3-3.
The Cyclones regained the lead with just over six remaining in the second when Glotov entered the offensive zone on the right side, blew by a defender, and snapped the puck past Wings’ netminder Jake Hildebrand to put Cincinnati up, 4-3, after two periods.
Cincinnati got an insurance goal 4:49 into the third period, when Jones snapped in a shot from the right circle off the crossbar and in to put Cincinnati up, 5-3. Cincinnati continued to pressure Kalamazoo, and in the final minute sealed the game with his second of the game into the empty net to lift the ‘Clones to a 6-3 win.
The Cyclones outshot Kalamazoo, 34-31 on the night, with goaltender Michael Houser stopping 28 in the win. Cincinnati begins a three-game weekend on Friday night in Indy against the Fuel Face-off is scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
