Peterson Nets Two in Homestand Finale

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (13-5-2-1) snapped a three-game winless streak with a 5-2 win over the Ft. Wayne Komets on Saturday night. Forward Judd Peterson led the way with a pair of goals, while forwards Myles Powell and Jesse Schultz, along with defenseman Eric Knodel tallied the goals for the Cyclones.

After a scoreless opening period, Cincinnati netted the game’s first goal 1:39 into the second when Schultz sent a pass from the right circle to Powell on the left side, and he ripped in a shot to put the ‘Clones up, 1-0.

After the Komets tied the game, 1-1, midway through the frame on a goal from forward Justin Hodgman, Cincinnati regained the lead with 2:50 left in the frame when forward Alex Wideman sent a pass to Peterson in the right circle, and he hammered a shot past Ft. Wayne goaltender Lukas Hafner to put the Cyclones back up, 2-1.

The 2-1 Cincinnati lead held up throughout the remainder of the second period, and in the third Cincinnati pushed their lead to a pair when Peterson took a pass from forward Pascal Aquin and fired in the puck to propel Cincinnati to a 3-1 lead.

The Komets were not deterred and pulled back to within a goal at the 10:19 mark on a goal from forward J.C. Campagna to cut the Ft. Wayne deficit to 3-2.

Cincinnati continued to pressure, and regained their two-goal lead roughly a minute and a half later when Powell came racing down the left side and sent a pass to Schultz in the slot, and snapped in a shot past Hafner to give the ‘Clones a 4-2 edge, Cincinnati capped off their big win with less than a minute to go when Knodel sent a shot from the Cyclones defensive zone down the ice into the empty net to seal the 5-2 win.

The Cyclones were outshot, 28-26 on the evening, with goaltender Jonas Johansson stopping 26 in the win. Cincinnati heads to Toledo to take on the Walleye on Wednesday morning. Face-off is scheduled for 10:30am ET.
