CYCLONES CLAIM BRABHAM CUP WITH WIN OVER WALLEYE

Cincinnati Power Play Deciding Factor in Close Win

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (50-12-5-3) picked up their 50thwin of the season with a 3-2 win over the Toledo Walleye on Wednesday night. Forwards Vas Glotov and Myles Powell, along with defenseman Eric Knodel netted the goals for Cincinnati, who earned their second Brabham Cup as ECHL Regular Season Champions.

After the Walleye took a 1-0 on a power play goal on defenseman Randy Gazzola, Cincinnati’s power play got on the board when Glotov took the puck in the right circle following a deflection on a blocked shot, and he rifled in a shot to tie game, 1-1, 17:45 into the frame.

Just 1:14 later Cincinnati’s man-advantage struck again when forward Jesse Schultz sent a pass from the right side to Powell in the left circle, and he tipped the puck in to give the Cyclones a 2-1 lead.

The momentum was short-lived, however, as with 28 seconds to play in the frame, Walleye defenseman Michael Moffat found the back of the net to tie the game, 2-2, after 20 minutes.

The 2-2 tie held up throughout the second period, and in the third Cincinnati regained the lead 4:41 into the third when forward Alex Wideman slid a pass to Knodel on the right side, and he buried a shot past Walleye goaltender Trevor Gorsuch to give the Cyclones a 3-2 lead.

That is all the offense Cincinnati needed, as Cyclones goaltender Michael Houser was a perfect 10-for-10 in the third to preserve the Cyclones 3-2 win. Cincinnati outshot the Walleye, 28-25 on the evening, with Houser stopping 23 in the win. The Cyclones wrap up the home portion of the 2018-19 schedule on Friday night against the Brampton Beast. Face-off is scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
