CYCLONES WITHSTAND LATE CHARGE TO CLIP WINGS

Cincinnati Earns Eighth Win in Last Nine Tries

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (13-5-1-0) eared a 4-2 win over the Kalamazoo Wings on Wednesday night, in front of 9,191 fans at Heritage Bank Center. Forward Jesse Schultz led the way with a pair of goals, while forwards Justin Vaive and Mason Mitchell each potted lone tallies for the Cyclones, who earn their fourth win in a row.

Cincinnati took the lead just 5:35 into the opening frame when a shot from defenseman Tobie Bisson was kicked out by Wings goaltender Jake Hildebrand, however the rebound came right to Vaive and he wristed a shot into put the Cyclones on top, 1-0.

That lead became 2-0 with less than seven minutes remaining in the period when a Schultz buried a rebound following a shot from forward Darik Angeli on the power play, to give Cincinnati a two-goal cushion through 20 minutes. Vaive was credited with an assist on the goal as well, earning him a first period Gordie Howe hat trick (goal, assist, fight).

After a scoreless second period, the Wings turned up the offensive pressure in the third and managed to tie the game, 2-2, by the 15:55 mark of the frame thanks to goals from forwards David Pope and Matt Iacopelli.

The Cyclones were not deterred, and with 1:36 left in the frame they regained the lead when a scrum in front led to Mitchell finding the puck in front of the net, and he shoved it in past Hildebrand to put Cincinnati on top, 3-2. Twenty-eight seconds later while facing the extra attacker, Cincinnati put the game away when Schultz buried an empty-netter from the neutral zone for his second goal of the game, giving the Cyclones a 4-2 win.

The Cyclones outshot the Wings, 35-20, with goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopping 18 in the win. Cincinnati hits the road for four-straight beginning on Saturday in Ft. Wayne against the Komets. Face-off is scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
