CYCLONES DROP BACK-AND-FORTH AFFAIR IN OVERTIME

Sadowy Earns Hat Trick in Comeback Win for Kalamazoo

Kalamazoo, MI- TheCincinnati Cyclones (18-6-4-0) fell to the Kalamazoo Wings, 6-5 in overtime, on Friday night. Forwards Shaw BoomhowerJustin VaiveNate Mitton, and Jesse Schultz, along with defenseman Kurt Gosselin scored the goals for the Cyclones, who tied a season-high with three power play goals.

The Cyclones opened the scoring 4:43 into the first when defenseman Matt Spencer sent a pass from below the goal line to Boomhower in front, and he slammed home the puck to give Cincinnati a 1-0 lead. That lead became 2-0 roughly four minutes later while on the power play when a shot from forward John Edwardh was deflected into the net by Vaive for his 12thgoal of the season.

Kalamazoo was not deterred and battled back to tie the game, 2-2, with goals from Justin Taylor at the 11:56 mark on the power play, and Dylan Sadowy with 1:57 remaining in the frame.

Cincinnati responded 18 seconds later and regained their lead when Mitton went to the net and finished off a 2-on-1 following a shot from forward Brady Vail to give the ‘Clones a 3-2 advantage after 20 minutes.

The Cyclones power play struck again 2:18 into the second when Gosselin wristed home a shot off a face-off win to extend Cincinnati’s lead to 4-2.

Kalamazoo stole a little of the momentum back with less than six to play in the middle period when forward Adam Dauda deflected in a shot to trim the Wings deficit back to a single goal, 4-3.

The 4-3 score held up throughout the remainder of the second, and in the third Cincinnati found some more magic on the power play when Schultz skated in to the right circle and sniped in a shot past Wings goaltender Jake Kielly to restore Cincinnati’s two-goal lead, 5-3, with 6:14 remaining.

Kalamazoo turned up the offensive pressure and pulled back to within one at the 16:09 mark when Sadowy netted his second of the night to cut the deficit to 5-4. With 49 seconds left and the goaltender pulled, Sadowy capped off the hat trick following a scramble in front of the net to tie the game, 5-5, and force overtime.

In the extra session, the chance came early and often for both teams. Both goaltenders made big saves on breakaways in the overtime period, and each side had multiple quality scoring chances. With three minutes remaining, Kalamazoo completed their comeback when forward Matheson Iacopelli scored on the second Kalamazoo breakaway of overtime to lift the Wings to a 6-5, come-from-behind, overtime win.

Shots were tied, 37-37, with Cyclones goaltender Michael Houser stopping 31 in the loss Cincinnati heads to Ft. Wayne on Saturday night to take on the Komets. Face-off is scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
