TOLEDO, OH – The Cyclones were stopped by the Walleye 9-1 on Sunday night inside the Huntington Center. Cincinnati falls to 4-4-2-0 against Toledo in the ten matchups this season.
* Toledo struck early and often in the first period. Riley Sawchuk tapped in a backdoor feed just 42 seconds into the game. The next minute, defensemen Riley McCourt got free in the high slot and wristed a shot past Talyn Boyko.
* In the second period, the Walleye put up four more goals. ECHL leading scorer Brandon Hawkins collected two markers in the period, including one on the man-advantage. Conlan Keenan and Chase Gresock also added tallies to balloon the lead to 6-0.
* The 3rd brought more of the same from the Walleye offense. Mitch Lewandowski was the beneficiary of a turnover and picked up a shorthanded goal. On the ensuing shift, the Cyclones got their lone goal with Brand Puricelli’s second marker in a Cincy uniform to make it 7-1. Conlan Keenan then potted two straight for Toledo and recorded a hat trick.
Up next, Cincinnati hosts the Wheeling Nailers on Wednesday night January 31st. The puck drops at 7:30pm ET for a “$2 Beer Night.”
