CINCINNATI, OH – The Cyclones fell short against the Mariners 6-3 Sunday afternoon inside the Heritage Bank Center. It was the second meeting all time between the clubs and the first win for Maine against Cincinnati.
* For the third straight game, Cincinnati opened the scoring at home. The Cyclones got a power play halfway through the 1st period and Zack Andrusiak converted on a one-time blast. Maine’s Adam Mechura then rattled off two straight goals. His first came off a Cincy turnover, his second was a powerplay strike to take a 2-1 lead.
* In the 2nd period, Mariners’ defensemen Fedor Gordeyev wristed in the visitors third goal over the shoulder of Olof Lindbom. Chase Zieky followed up the strike minutes later on the man-advantage to balloon the lead to 4-1. Before the close of the period, Cincinnati received another power play, where Zack Andrusiak clapped in his second of the game to build momentum heading into the 3rd.
* The Cyclones got things to a 4-3 deficit with a third man-advantage goal from Zack Andrusiak. It was his second hat trick in just two weeks. Midway through the 3rd period, Maine received insurance goals from Wyllum Deveaux off a rebound and Adam Mechura’s third of the game. Kyle Keyser finished with 24 saves in the 6-3 win.
Up next, Cincinnati hits the road to take on Indy for a midweek contest. The puck drops Tuesday February 27th at 10:30am inside the Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
