SMERECK NAMED TO ALL-ECHL FIRST TEAM

CINCINNATI, OH -- The ECHL on Thursday announced its All-ECHL First and Second Teams for 2023-24 as determined in a vote of ECHL coaches, broadcasters, media relations directors and media, who were asked to select a goaltender, two defensemen and three forwards.

Cincinnati's Jalen Smereck was one of two defensemen named to the All-ECHL First Team. The Detroit, Michigan native leads ECHL defensemen with 57 assists and 71 points while his 14 goals are tied for fifth. Smereck leads all players in the league with 28 power-play assists while his 32 power-play points are tops among defensemen and second overall.

On Saturday March 30th in Cincy, Smereck broke the franchise single season record for points amongst a defensemen when he recorded his 70th point of the season. The 27-year-old passed Stéphane Richer who notched 69 points in the 1994-95 season.

21 times this season, Smereck has recorded multiple points in a game. With one contest remaining, the Cyclones All-Star is cruising into career highs for goals, assists, points and penalty minutes.
