CINCINNATI, OH – The Cincinnati Cyclones announced today the signing of defenseman Steven MacLean ahead of the 2024-25 season. MacLean becomes the first defenseman to lock in a contract with the Cyclones for next season.
“I was really happy with my play last year and I think I grew a lot as a player”, said MacLean. “Throughout the year I grew as a person. I got to get that ice time, player a greater role and get those minutes later in games.”
Steven returns to Cincinnati for his third year with the club and fresh off his first full season of pro hockey. Last year, the Scarborough, Ontario native paced all Cyclones skaters with a +10 rating and manned the blue line for 68 games.
In 100 regular season and playoff contests with Cincy, MacLean has recorded 19 points (5g, 14a). The 6’7” lefty defenseman adds size and discipline to the Cincinnati defense core, collecting just 16 penalty minutes throughout last season.
Before turning pro, MacLean appeared in 65 games over four years at the collegiate level with Wilfred Laurier University (USports). Before that, he captained the OJHL's Aurora Tigers for the 2018-19 season, posting 28 points in 53 games.
MacLean spent three seasons and 158 games skating for Aurora, logging nine goals and 49 points in his junior hockey career.
