CINCINNATI, OH – The Cincinnati Cyclones announced today the signing of defenseman Josh Burnside ahead of the 2024-25 season. Burnside becomes the third defenseman to sign a contract with the Cyclones for next season along with Steven MacLean and Landon Cato.
“Me being comfortable, especially now getting older, is probably the best feeling”, said Burnside. “Just having guys that you’ve played with before and knowing how they are in the room just makes you want to come back so bad. That was my thought process.”
The Brampton, Ontario native has been a steady presence on the Cincinnati blue line the past three seasons suiting up for 150 regular season games. During that stretch, Burnside recorded 33 points (7g, 26a) and a plus/minus of +10.
Head coach Jason Payne says Burnside has “always put in the work to get better and build on his game.”
A left-shooting defenseman, Burnside also logged 15 ECHL games with the Allen Americans and 13 contests with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. Prior to turning pro, Josh skated in over 100 games for Carleton University (12g, 50a).
The 29-year-old served as captain for the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL and wore an “A” for two separate seasons. At the junior level, Josh nabbed 53 goals and 154 points throughout his tenure in the Ontario Hockey League.
“Cincinnati has such a huge fan base and it’s awesome to play in front of them.”
