VAIVE SETS RECORD AS CYCLONES FALL 5-4

The Cincinnati Cyclones took their first regulation loss of the 2024-2025 season in a 5-4 battle against the Fort Wayne Komets.

The big story was Cyclones Forward Justin Vaive becoming the organization’s all time goal scoring leader with 148 goals. He supplants Cyclones legend Don Biggs who played parts of seven seasons with the Clones finishing his career with 147 goals.

* At 7:17 of the first, Alex Aleardi drove hard to the net and while Peksa stopped the initial attempt, Alerardi’s followup found the back of the cage for his third of the year making it a 1-0 game. The goal was assisted by Mayhew and Swetlikoff.

* Just over a minute later, Jack Gorniak got his first of the season for the Komets as the winger buried a rebound. The goal was reviewed for a kick but stood to make it a 2-0 marker.

* With 9:26 left in the first, Cyclones Defenseman Chas Sharpe ripped a shot from the point that slipped past Brochu. The tally was the Toronto prospects first professional goal. Picking up the assists were Ashbrook and Howdeshell.

* Early in the second period, Justin Vaive made history becoming the Cyclones organization’s all-time goal scoring leader with 148 goals. Vaive took a feed from behind the net and buried it to tie the game at 2.

* Alex Aleardi wasn’t done on the scoresheet as he flipped a backhand shot over the shoulder of Peksa at the 5:33 mark of the 2nd for his second goal of the night and 4th of the season.

* With the Komets on the power play, Nick Isaacson stole a puck at the center dot and wristed a shorthanded tally to tie the game at 3.

* With 12:28 left in regulation, Komets Defenseman Kyle Mayhew took a cross ice pass skated in-between the circles and buried the Komets 4th goal of the game.

* Matt Murphy made the athletic play to keep a deep pad save in the zone and flipped it towards the goal for it to sneak in to tie the game at 4 with just over 8:30 left in regulation

* At the 6:33 mark Alex Swetlikoff  tallied his 4th point of the night on the go-ahead and game winning goal. The Edmonton prospect finished the night with a goal and 3 assists.

* The Cyclones tallied a whopping 44 shots through 3 frames
