CYCLONES ACQUIRE MASON MCCARTY VIA TRADE

Cincinnati, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones today announced the acquisition of forward Mason McCarty from the Rapid City Rush in exchange for forward Patrick Bajkov.

McCarty, 27, joins Cincinnati after playing in 20 games with the Rapid City Rush in the last two seasons. Acquired via trade with Reading in December of 2023, the forward recorded four goals and five assists during the 2023-24 season between his tenures with the Royals and the Rush. Cincinnati will mark McCarty’s fourth ECHL team, after a season spent with the Kalamazoo Wings in 2022-23.

“Mason is a proven hockey player in this league that brings a new energy to our lineup.” said Head Coach Jason Payne. “We’re excited to welcome him to Cincinnati and look forward to seeing how he contributes to our team this season.”

Prior to his professional career, McCarty began his junior career as a member of the WHL’s Red Deer Rebels. After a brief stint in Red Deer, McCarty was traded to the Saskatoon Blades in 2014. In three seasons with Saskatoon, McCarty appeared in 142 games, recording 46 goals and 34 assists. He would return to Red Deer in his last season of junior hockey, where he served as assistant captain and picked up 74 points in 69 games.

After making his professional debut with Rapid City, McCarty went to play collegiate hockey at Acadia University (USports) in Nova Scotia. In 42 collegiate games, the Alberta native picked up 16 goals, 16 assists, 32 points as a member of the Acadia Axemen.
